The Artist Rise #023
Welcome to your weekly resource for all things branding, release strategy, and overall artist development.
Every week I'll help you tackle brand-building and strengthen your artistry by asking questions that dig deeper into your true artist self. Let's get into it.
How EOY feels
Are we there yet? Why not? How much further do we have to go to get where we want to be?
Let's turn that around
Alright, I'm using this week's edition to do something a little different.
It's the end of the year, so that means it's the time when you reflect everything you planned for 2024 and see just how much of that became reality.
If you're overly ambitious like me, odds are there are some things on that list that didn't get checked.
But at the same time there are probably also some items that happened that were beyond the scope of your plans.
I had planned to release a new song every month this year. I made it every month through June, had a live EP in August, and a final single in September. So not quite what was planned, but the EP wasn't originally on my docket.
I decided to start putting myself out there and do some open mics, and I did. But not nearly as regularly as I planned.
But I didn't plan for my first songwriter's showcase or writer's round and those are two big things that I got to do this fall.
My point is: sometimes plans don't pan out exactly the way we intend them, and when we're zoomed out from the actual execution process, it's easy to say we can accomplish many different things.
But here's the point I want to drive home:
Progress is always goal #1.
You can set milestones you want to hit, things you want to accomplish, and projects you want to finish.
And it's important to set your eyes on something worth working towards.
But when you let your own value fall into whether you accomplished those things or not, you're doing yourself a disservice.
Most artists set their eyes on streaming numbers or followers, and it's easy to feel like the needle isn't moving when you don't jump in growth like you thought.
But you have to remember that even if you put forth your best efforts, those numbers growing isn't necessarily in your control.
The only thing you can control is your own personal progress.
Walk with me
Look at where you are now, here at the end of 2024.
And look back to where the year started.
See what changed, how you grew, and ultimately assess Point A to Point B.
What surprised you? What do you wish would've gone differently? What (that's within your personal control) would you want to have ended up further than it did?
Learn from every song you write and every song you release.
Ask yourself what we can bring into 2025 to make it better than 2024.
And validate everything you do with this:
Is this better than the last?
Because if the answer is YES, then it's only a matter of time before those big goals you want to hit become a reality.
Until next time,
-Ava
Let's tackle 2025
If you're someone that wants to roll out a project next year, but struggle with the planning and balancing all of what comes a long with it, then this is for you. I'm looking for a few artists that could use some help with the strategy/branding pieces and want to regain clarity around releasing music. Interested? Let's chat.
That's it for this week! Hopefully this helped you take the next step in developing yourself as an artist and a brand. Stay tuned for more next week.
If you have any topics you want to see more of or any questions you'd love for me to answer, simply reply to this email.
Keep learning and growing,
