The Artist Rise #021

Welcome to your weekly resource for all things branding, release strategy, and overall artist development.

Every week I'll help you tackle brand-building and strengthen your artistry by asking questions that dig deeper into your true artist self. Let's get into it.

The Question

What is it that you want out of your artistry? What is the biggest thing that you want to achieve?

The Importance

Knowing what you want is the first step in trying to get it. Sounds simple right?

But there are so many options for what an artist career can look like.

Do you want to thrive off of streams?

Be the face of a movement?

Be known for something particular?

There are plenty of different options as to what your career in music can look like as an artist, so you have to pick which one works best for you.

Once you know what you want, you can start narrowing in on the things that'll help you accomplish that thing.

For example, if you just want to be on everybody's playlists and be heard, stick to playlisting and make your content as soundbyte-y as possible.

If you want to be the artist with this super memorable live show, then book gigs left and right and make 80% of your content clips from those shows.

The kind of artist you want to be should align with who you are on the internet because that's the way most people are going to find you and know you.

And the more you try to spread yourself across different aspects of artistry, the harder it will be to accomplish that one specific thing.

A focused effort leads to a clearer brand and a clearer brand is what really builds fans.

Your Task

Define who you want to be as an artist and what that looks like for you.

Then, identify the main effort you have to make to be that artist.

And add in another 1-2 artist aspects that can align with and support your goal as an artist and make that dream a reality.

Find where you thrive, and thrive some more.

Until next time,

-Ava
