The Artist Rise #026

Welcome to your weekly resource for all things branding, release strategy, and overall artist development.

Every week I'll help you tackle brand-building and strengthen your artistry by asking questions that dig deeper into your true artist self.

Let's get into it.

The Question

When everything feels like it's failing, what keeps you holding on? What keeps you from giving up or throwing in the towel when it feels hopeless?

Why it Matters

I've had this idea come up in the Why Music? podcast recently when I ask artists to come up with a question for next week's guest.

What pulls you back on the days you want to quit? How do you move past the doubtful moments?

Whether you realize it or not, this is another way of asking yourself to define your "WHY".

Your "why" is your reasoning, what keeps you going, what's at the heart of why you're here in the first place.

Your "why" is the whole foundation.

While being an artist and chasing this passion feels like a no-brainer to you, there are people out there that keep this as a hobby and never see it as more than that.

Meanwhile there are things we do casually or for fun that are someone else's dream. That's just how life works.

So what is it about making music that's made it become your whole world? Why music?

Knowing this is the key to embracing your artistry. It's the core of everything built upon it.

What keeps you going is what your music and your artistry should reflect more than anything.

It's what drives you, and it's what ignites that spark in your fans to jump on board with you and your artistry.

Putting it to Action

So how do you find your "why"?

Think back to the last time you were frustrated and fed up with music.

Whether that's a release that fell short, a recording session that had problem after problem, or a long creative dry spell where it seemed like you'd never write another good song.

What's the realization you come to that brings you back to music? Where's the heart of that fire that it lights inside of you?

That's where your "why" is.

The impact you want your next project to have? THAT is where your "why" is.

The first thing you'd want your fans to take away from you and your music, that's where your "why" truly is.

Reflect on your journey, see where music went from something casual to your whole world.

Find your message, dig into your core, and where your "why" like a heart on your sleeve.

That's what people want to support and connect over.

Because at the end of the day, everybody's "why"s are what make us human and it's what we seek to support in others.

Find your "why", and you'll find the deepest core of your artistry.

So give your fans something they can connect to and get behind.

Until next time,

-Ava
