The Artist Rise #036

Welcome to your weekly resource for all things branding, release strategy, and overall artist development.

Every week I'll help you strengthen your artistry through sustainable strategies that will help you build your career rather than force you into burnout.

Let's get into it.

I'll keep it short & sweet this week for the holiday weekend.

Working for your worth

One thing that every independent artist knows is how hard it is to do the work of a team solely by yourself.

There's a reason you have a whole team behind artists, it's too much work for one person.

But a lot of artists take that as an excuse for why they aren't getting results or don't cover all the bases.

And while some of that is valid (the struggle is REAL), it's not going to get you the team you desire.

What is? Doing the work.

Ever heard the phrase "act like you've been there before?"

In a similar fashion, you have to do the work that you think your artistry is worth.

If you feel really strongly about a new song, match it with the effort in promotion.

I know fully independent artists who have fully self-booked tours and gone the extra mile to nurture fanbases and create content fans care about.

If other artists can do it, who's to say you can't too?

The point is, you have to find ways to go beyond any self-limiting beliefs that you can't do it because you don't have a big enough budget or anybody on your team and make it happen for yourself.

If you want to go on tour, do your research and get in contact with who's booking the shows where you want to play.

If you want to engage your audience, get creative with your content and do something other artists haven't.

If you want to get media coverage on your next release, put a contact list together, write yourself a press release, and be your best advocate when you pitch to them.

Of course it's easier said than done, trying to accomplish so much when you might have a limited budget or work too much to feel like you have the time.

But there is something to be said for developing systems and templates that make the process easier. And it's just as important to build those tasks into your schedule to make it more manageable to accomplish what you want to accomplish.

It's not a perfect system, and it's certainly a hefty task to check every box all of the time, but if you want something, you have to work for it.

If you believe in yourself, you have to believe in the value of the work and steps it takes to get there.

If other artists can do it, you can too.
